On Thursday, 7 November 2019 Project Management Institute (PMI) recognized the important work and contribution to the project management profession of Professor Bent Flyvbjerg, by presenting him with the 2019 PMI Research Achievement Award.
The PMI Research Achievement Award recognizes and honors an individual whose work has significantly advanced the concepts, knowledge, and practices of project management through a published body of academic research.
Bent Flyvbjerg is the first BT Professor and inaugural Chair of Major Programme Management at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and a Professorial Fellow of St Anne’s College. He is a world-leading scholar in several academic areas, including research methodology, decision making, and project management.
He has advanced the field of project management research in numerous ways by award-winning articles in the Project Management Journal, by publishing some of the most cited books and articles in the field, by helping Oxford and others set up research centers and research-based degree programmes and executive education in megaproject management, by editing significant special issues in leading journals, and by editing a seminal handbook on megaproject management.
Professor Flyvbjerg has pioneered the field of megaproject management and made it an important research field spanning several disciplines engaging sociologists, urban planners, management scholars, economists, and engineers. He has truly contributed to making project management more inter-disciplinary.
